I asked myself like any good geek would, "what would I do to shake up some titles?" And this is what came up to me. I want to make this list as realistic as possible, but at the same time let my geek flag fly.
So, without further ado, here are the things I would do to 10 different DC comics titles. And I'm not touching Batman by Snyder and Capullo. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!! Now, in no particular order:
Artist: Alex Maleev
Could you imagine at least one story arc of Batman written by Dan Brown, of The Da Vinci Code fame? Let him do maybe a Riddler story and he could take the world's greatest detective to new heights trying to solve puzzles and crack codes, I would sooooo put down money immediately to a Dan Brown written Batman. There have been best selling authors that have taken a stab at writing comics before, and hopefully somehow, someday, this will happen.
As for Alex Maleev, all you have to do is look at the Daredevil run he had with Brian Michael Bendis, and if that doesn't convince you, just look at that Batman sketch. I rest my case.
Artist: Sara Pichelli
After Convergance, I would just make Dick Grayson Nightwing again. And who better than Scott Snyder to write him? He already has a breakthrough story with Dick as Batman in The Black Mirror, and the snippets he's written in the current Batman series shows just how much he understands the character. Another full arc by Snyder but with Dick as Nightwing could be huge for the character and DC.
Sara Pichelli is an amazing artist, and if you've seen her run on Ultimate Spider-Man, you just know she'd be a perfect fit for the former circus acrobat. And if that doesn't convince you, just take a look at the image to the right and picture Nightwing and Batgirl instead. I thought so.
Artist: Babs Tarr
Young Justice was one of those titles that just grew over time, getting more appreciation after it was cancelled. It got to a point that it even got a critically acclaimed animated series years after the comic was done. And it makes you wonder if writer Peter David has more stories to tell. I mean, if he recently had another acclaimed run on X-Factor at Marvel, who's to say what he could do with another shot at Young Justice?
Babs Tarr has absolutely been tearing it as the artist on Batgirl, and her convergance cover for Superboy simply left me wanting more. She has the sytle and energy to do something real special with this one.
This would be a long shot, but her ewe go. Vera Brosgol is better known for the outstanding graphic novel Anya's Ghost. With the direction of Batgirl continuing to be on the all ages side, Brosgol would be that perfect balance between lighthearted, relateable characters, an dark mystery as well.
Loish is an exceptional talent that would continue to bring an insane amount of energy and elegance to the title, I'd even settle fro variant covers at least, but I HAVE to see Loish do a Batgirl someday!
Cloonan deserves her own vehicle at DC comics, and I think Wonder Woman would be absolutely perfect for her.
She's proven to do great work on a visual level on an iconic character like Batman, let her cut loose on Wonder Woman.
Also, she has done fantasy mini-comics that she has written, and they are kick ass! Just imagine all she could do writing and drawing an amazon princess.
Artist: Ale Garza
Another author on this list! Also a long shot, but, how cool would it be to see Collins, of The Hunger Games fame, tackle a comic? She handled a pretty big cast of characters in the Hunger Games trilogy, so why not take another genre with all the teenage angst, excitement, fear, courage, doubts that the teenage characters that the Hunger Games had? Mix in government conspiracies, teens on the run with incredible powers, and adult heroes as mentors, and it's a better fit than you might think.
Ale Garza has done teen books before and his kinetic art should be an incredible fit right here.
Artist: LeSean Thomas
Static is a character that should be bigger. He has a cult following and like with Young Justice, at one point had an acclaimed animated series after the comic was done. There was a failed attempt at putting him back in comics with the new 52, but I say the third time is the charm. Especially with Felipe Smith as writer, he absolutely hit it out of the ball park last year with Marvel's Ghost Rider, I'm certain he would write a KILLER Static Shock and maybe even share art duties as well.
LeSean Thomas would absolutely nail the look of Static. He anime influenced art and great designs, as well as his background in animated hits like The Boondocks and Black Dynamite could shoot this book into a bigger level that it deserves.
Artist: John Romita Jr
Keith Giffen and Dan DiDio obviously have a deep love for the Jack Kirby DC comics era, and they should, as should everybody! So doing an New Gods series would be incredibly awesome since they have proven to do entertaining stories with much love and respect for the characters.
What would have me drooling is the prospect of John Romita Jr, now a DC talent, actually drawing it! I mean, he already drew pretty much every Kirby created Marvel character at one point or another, I say let him go crazy on a New Gods run.
Artist: Trado Moore
It's been years since Tim Drake had the spotlight on his own series. What better way to bring him back among the best titles than reuniting the creative team of Felipe Smith and Trado Moore?
Smith, who I mentioned earlier in the list in what would be another teen book, would do a great job of having young master Drake have a great solo comic again.
And Moore's energetic art would put Red Robin in all kinds of crazy things, this team NEEDS to come back and it NEEDS to come back on Red Robin!!!
Artist: Fiona Staples
Strazynski has the galactic background with Babylon 5.
Staples has the space/fantasy background with Saga.
Imagine all the insanity that Strazynski could write up for Hal Jordan, imagine all the insanity Staples could design from the things Jordan could create with his ring AND the designs the space creatures and environment she could draw.
Combine the two, and you just might have the greatest Green Lantern creative team ever.
Well, this was really fun! If you guys have any ideas, feel free to share. I'll do a Marvel one but only if you guys REALLY want me to do one. Thank you for reading and sound off on the comments section below and like this entry!
