"It’s all a matter of consistency. We love our hardcore constituency. We’re not rebooting, we’re not saying, ‘Hey, all that stuff you read doesn’t matter anymore.” We’re building upon that [history], which is really no different [than how Marvel typically operates]." This was in reference to Marvel ever doing a reboot.
But then, what is this 2015 version of Secret Wars? It's heralded as the end of, well, everything, but at the same time, all the Marvel officials say nothing will change, except Miles Morales and possibly other characters from multiple parallel worlds will join the 616 Marvel world. But is this a smokescreen? Is this essentially Crisis on Infinite Earths? But the most important question to me is, is this necessary?
In all honesty, the continuity at Marvel is a mess, and has been for years now. It took the Ultimate universe a mere fifteen years to crumble and have a couple of semi-reboots already, imagine the 616 Marvel universe. By the way, the Ultimate universe will officially end by the end of this event. It was rumored for years that the Ultimate universe would eventually meet it's demise, especially after critically panned events such as Ultimatum (in my personal opinion, the SILLIEST title for a crossover event ever), the only real bright spot has been the Miles Morales Ultimate Spider-Man.
All the worlds in Marvel will converge in...."Battle World"....where they will all duke it out and only one reality will survive. The Ultimate universe will be no more (except apparently Miles Morales and maybe a couple of alternate universe characters). Of course it's too early to tell what exactly will go on in this latest of Marvel events, but what do you guys think? Is it a reboot? Should it be called as such? Is it a good idea or necessary?
I think it is necessary to an extent that the continuity is not as solid anymore and hopefully Marvel would have learned from those semi-reboots from the Ultimate line and even from DC's various world events. Though part of me wished this was a named differently other than Secret Wars. Or at least get the continuity right and name it Secret Wars III. And no, I'm not counting Spider-Man & the Secret Wars. Or does that count too? Anywho, what do you guys think? Good idea? Bad idea? Sound off at the comments section below and thank you as always for......I'm sorry..."Battle World"? Seriously?
