OK, since many of my friends love comic books, they often ask me what my "pull list" looks like. For those of you who may not know what a "pull list" is, basically it's a list of comics that you give to your local comics shop so that they reserve your copies as soon as they arrive, this way you don't have to worry about the books being sold out and you ending up without your copy. Now, for some strange reason my friends value my opinion, especially when it comes to comic books so I decided to answer everyones questions in one fell swoop. Throughout the month I'll be posting here what my "pull list" consists off, what my favorite web comics are on a monthly basis and the indy comics I follow. I'll start with the mainstream books and go from there. Since there's too many to mention in a single post, I'll write them down 5 books at a time. One last thing I'd like to mention is that these are in no particular order, since I love them all!
Batgirl- This new version of Batgirl has her stepping out of the wheelchair she's been bound to since that fateful night when The Joker shot her in her spine. Gail Simone, the writer of the book, tells a great story and shows that even though Barbara Gordon (a.k.a.Batgirl) may be able to walk again, she's still very much vulnerable and it's going to take her a while to get the hang of things again. There's a big difference between walking around and jumping from rooftops and fighting super villains.
The Flash- The team of Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato have taken the fastest man alive and turned him into one of the coolest characters ever! This ain't your old Flash, this Flash is hip, cool, and a force to be reckoned with. The visuals on this book are incredible and the stories are intriguing and FUN! If you're picking this book up then... why aren't you??? Run to your local comic shop and get your copy today.
Earth 2- This is the story of the heroes we know and love, but in another world; a parallel Earth if you will. Now I've never been fond of parallel universes and all that nonsense but I have to admit this book intrigued me, especially since Huntress, my favorite female character, is in it as Robin and in this Earth, she has a great relationship with her dad; Bruce Wayne (a.k.a. Batman).
Nightwing- This book I love and the character's always been interesting to me. Dick Grayson, also known as the 1st Robin, is grown up and making a name for himself as the vigilante known as Nightwing. Being trained by Batman is one thing but gaining his respect and trust is a completely different issue and Grayson has done both! That speaks volumes and the whole DC Universe knows this. This book explores his roots in the circus and a misterious past that ties into the Night of the Owls event going on right now througout all the Bat-titles.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- This version of our favorite turtles goes back to the original Eastman and Lair version, a more down and gritty story rather than the Archie version we saw in the cartoons; this comics are just plain cool! The artwork sets the tone of the book and fits perfectly with the story their trying to tell. I suggest everyone picks this book; you won't regret it. COWABUNGA!!!
I hope you enjoyed this and hope that you come back for the next installment. Leave your comments and opinions, or better yet, leave your own pull list and tell us what you enjoy about them.
