Following Ditko's departure in issue #38 (1966), John Romita Sr. replaced him as penciller starting with issue #39 and would continue to draw the series for several years. Romita Sr. would also draw the character's extra length stories in the comics magazines called The Spectacular Spider-Man. It only lasted two issues. There have been many amazing artists that have drawn Spider-Man throughout the years but in my opinion, the image everyone has of our friendly neighborhood wall crawler is either Ditko's, Romita Sr. or Kirby's Amazing Fantasy #15 cover.
There have been highs and lows but I have to admit that despite not buying Spider-Man books on a regular basis, I do love the character and I'm glad the world does too. So, I'd like to wish Spidey a Happy 50th Birthday!!! Keep on swinging my friend!
