What followed was a crazy battle of wits and serious action going around. Tim Drake not only wanted to bring down the Joker, but what caught my attention, was he was trying to prove himself. He wasn’t a second fiddle to Batman. He wanted to prove to himself he could take out the Joker, including perhaps my most favorite Tim Drake moment ever. When Commissioner Gordon hesitated when he found out Robin was alone, Tim blows a casket and yells back at him “He didn’t pick my name out of a hat!” referring to being Batman’s sidekick while his interior monologue said “I hope I’m as brave as the words I just said”. Brilliant. Of course by the end he finally defeats the Joker by himself! At the time I had another comic book friend that Batman was his favorite character as well. Sometime after that mini-series a new Batman series “Shadow of the Bat” came out. I traded the first 4 issues of that series for the first Robin mini-series which he owned. I really wanted a new series of Tim Drake. But before that, we would have another mini-series.
