It's safe to say that the movie has been a massive success, not only at the box office where it's broken all sorts of records but with fans and critics alike; not an easy feat. I'll be honest with you, I've loved Star Wars for more than thirty years so to say that I loved this movie is an understatement; but it's far from perfect. Now hold on, before you crucify me and accuse me of blasphemy I'd like to express in detail; what my thoughts are on the movie. I'll tell you what I loved and what I didn't, the good surprises, the groan inducing moments and everything in between! The official review will be on an upcoming episode of the Truthful Comics Podcast but for now, I'd like to get something off my chest that's been eating at my soul; and that is the notion that the chemistry between the characters in The Force Awakens is leaps and bounds above the one in the Prequels. I for one couldn't disagree more with that notion.
Just as Poe is handed the map to Skywalker, he's interrupted by none other than Kylo Ren (the big bad moving forward). Stormtroopers rush out of their transport vehicles and proceed to annihilate an entire village in a fantastic sequence that gives us some very important moments. First, we get to see Poe's bravery and humor, we get to see exactly how badass Kylo Ren is when (in one of the most epic scenes in the entire Star Wars saga) he stops a laser blast in mid air while doing something else. The only word to describe that scene is simply... badass! After Kylo can't find the map, he orders the stormtroopers to bring Poe inside his ship and kill the rest of the villagers. It is at that exact moment that we see something we haven't seen before in any of the films; a stormtrooper with a conscience who refuses to murder innocent villagers for no reason at all... and Kylo Ren notices.
