Truthful Comics- How long have you been Cosplaying?
Syren Cosplay- I've been cosplaying since 2007! I was 13 at the time.
TC- Cosplay or Crossplay? Or both?
SC- Both, but it all depends on the characters. It's harder for me to pull off the look of a guy's body because of my body proportions, but if I like a male character enough i'll cosplay them!
SC- I cosplay for a lot of different reasons. It's an outlet for my creativity, and it helps break the ice to meet more people at cons. Like, if you're in a costume, it gets easier to talk to people and get out of your comfort zone because you're in an environment full of people who love the same things as you, so you already have relevant interests!
TC- Is Cosplay a hobby you consider yourself doing for a long time?
SC- Most likely, yes! I mean, I'm not gonna be 80 years old dressed up as Yoko or anything, but I would like to continue cosplaying for as long as possible.
TC- Homemade Cosplay or bought/comissioned cosplay?
SC- Doesn't matter! I make the majority of my cosplays, but I have nothing against people buying theirs.
SC- As in a favorite cosplay of my own? Oh gosh, I can't choose! They're all my babies. I mean, some of them are really crappy, but they're still my babies!
TC- What is your most expensive Cosplay?
SC- Probably Red Sonja. The scale maille costs so much because it's shipped from Canada, and it's very heavy so the shipping costs go up. Also, all the leather I used for it was costly, and worbla isn't cheap either haha.
TC- What Cosplay has gotten more attention from your fans?
SC- Probably Yoko? I'm not really sure haha! I've cosplayed Yoko the longest, so I'd go with her.
SC- Slut shaming! Don't even get me started, haha. I'll end up writing an angry novel about it if I don't stop myself.
TC- Jaja ok, let's move on to the next question then. What was your first convention? What was the reaction?
SC- Anime Fest Wichita 2007. I was completely in awe..words could not describe what I felt. It was also back when I was in somewhat of a weeaboo phase, so not only was I a hyperactive 13 year old, but I was a hyperactive 13 year old weeaboo, so I was probably super obnoxious.
TC- Photoshopped or un-photoshopped images?
SC- Doesn't matter? Haha, I mean, photoshop is great to correct lighting issues and whatnot, but I don't really care if someone photoshops their images. As long as you're not changing your bone structure, there's nothing wrong with it in my opinion.
SC- I have a full-time job selling leather and leather accessories. I'm basically the Hank Hill of leather, I tell you what.
TC- When do you do Cosplays? At conventions only?
SC- Yes, unless I have a photoshoot outside of a con.
TC- What got you into Cosplaying?
SC- The Internet! I found cosplay.com and then went on a googling binge to find out more about cosplay. I was in love with the idea, and asked my parents if I could go to a con in Wichita. I kinda feel bad for my mom and dad, having to tag along with me as I was bouncing around the hotel in a pocky and ramuné-fueled stupor.
TC- Thank you for a super fun interview. Hopefully we'll do this again soon, maybe spotlighting your newest Cosplays.
