I remember back in the day when Joe Quesada (back when he was an artist) was drawing Ninjak for Valiant, how awesome that book was and how awesome the character was as well! The concept of a light skinned Ninja captured my imagination and I was hooked. Unfortunately I lost my comic book collection in a hurricane and those Ninjak books were lost forever, so the notion os me jumping on to this brand new series based on one of my favorite characters made me very happy... and nervous. I was happy because of the obvious reasons, I was going to be able to read brand new stories based on a kickass character that I love, but nervous because the bar was set very high (at least in my view) by the original series. Regardless, I was going to buy the books!
So, last night I decided to read issues #1 - #3 of this current incarnation of the character and here are my thoughts in one word; AMAZING!!! This book is one of the best I've read this year without a doubt. The story is engaging, intriguing and it makes you understand Ninjak's motivations for becoming a master in the dark Ninjitsu arts. You get to see how his childhood shaped him into the man he'd become and you get to meet a few of his "colleagues". We also get to see a formidable rival for Ninjak in the female assassin known as Rokku. From start to finish, from the story and the art; this book is as good as comics get. If you haven't picked it up yet, do yourself a favor and buy Ninjak from Valiant Comics.
