Yesterday my family and I went for the first time to the VA Comic Con in Richmond, Virginia and we had a blast! It wasn't quite what I expected but I wouldn't have changed anything. The staff was very nice, the fans we're very courteous amongst each other and the guest creators were amazing and most importantly, VERY HUMBLE!!! We met a lot of great people and found out that some artists were as amazing human beingsas they are creators. All in all, we had an awesome experience and we can't wait to be a part of it next year! Here's some of the images we captured from the show...
We met a bunch of creators but amongst them two or three stood up from the pack. One of them was superstar artist Billy Tucci! This man talked with us like he knew us from way back when, he treated everyone that came to his table with respect, he payed attention to everything you had to say and at one point he even left his table to help out one of the vendors close to him because they had a lot of people buying and they couldn't keep up. He just gave me his ipad (yep, his ipad!) and took off, he actually trusted us with his ipad! On top of that, he showed us the artwork for his new project A Child is Born and for the first time I actually was about to cry over a comic book!!! That artwork really moved me and my wife to the point that, even though she ain't a comic book fan, she told me she couldn't wait to get that book. We also told him about our non-profit organization Comics For Christmas and he told us to contact his people and they could help us out. All in all, Billy was as humble as can be, he's as amazing a human being as he is an artist and he got new fans in my family and I, from this day forth, I'll be buying every book this man puts out. Thank you for being you Mr. Tucci!!!
Another artist that made a positive impact on my wife and I was Daniel Gover who talked, laughed and had a good time with us. We bought one of his sketch books and he even did an amazing Yoda sketch that blew my mind! We ended up recording him and having a blast! He also told me that he's working on some new stuff but couldn't give me any details, but told me to stay in touch through Facebook and he'd be posting new info as soon as "the powers that be" let him doit. Again, Mr. Gover was amazing and he got new fans in my family and I. Thanks for the sketch Dan!
