Indie Spotlight:
Kelley Leanne Harris

I've been meaning to write an Indie creators series of articles that spotlight the many talented creators that are out there making comics against all odds and I feel deserve our attention. A few people have asked me "why would you give another artist a spotlight on your website? They're gonna take your readers!" My short answer is No they won't, my long answer is it ain't about me, it never was about me and it never will be about me; we're all in this together. Hopefully creators see me writing about them and their books and we'll get to know each other, hopefully become friends and hopefully help each other out. There's room for everyone. With that said, let's talk to the mega talented Kelley Leanne Harris, creator of Those Who Sleep.

Me- When did you came up with the idea for Those Who Sleep?

Kelley- It started as an attempt at NaNoWriMo back in 2015. I came up with the idea and did the first chapter, 31 pages, over the course of November that year. It was just supposed to be a one shot, but when I was done I was still really into the characters and concept and kept playing with it for the next few years

Me- What is the creative team behind your comic?

Kelley- Just me, I do all of it, which is why the process is so slow haha

Me- What's the premise behind Those Who Sleep ?

Kelley- TWS is a supernatural/horror themed comic about two best friends who get caught up in a whirlwind of secrets and mysteries after they discover a dead body. Willa is an energetic college student and her best friend happens to be an extremely powerful vampire.

Me- How many issues do you have planned to produce?

Kelley- I don't have a set amount right now. I just have the story layed out. I do this in my free time with no intention of it becoming anything full time, so I'm taking the process slowly.

Me- Is Those Who Sleep going to be a long running series or a mini-series?

Kelley- Long running

Me- Why self-publish?

Kelley- Like I said I don't have any intention of this being a job or a way to make money, it's really just for fun. Self publish lets me make a few books here and there to sell at conventions.

Me- How do you separate yourself from the thousands who self publish their books every year?

Kelley- I honestly don't. I just want to make a story that I love and hope that some people like it too.

Me- Good answer! Where can fans read or get their very own copy of Those Who Sleep?

Kelley- I don't have any plans to do another print run for quite awhile, but you can read it for free on webtoon!

Me- What's next for Those Who Sleep ?

Kelley- We're about to finish chapter two, then we'll be jumping into chapter three that really starts to amp up the horror aspects of the story.

Me- Are you working on any other projects at the moment?

Kelley- Between work, TWS, commissions, and con tables, I'm just trying to make sure I sleep haha.

Me- Anything else you wanna share with us?

Kelley- If you're interested you can read it on webtoon, but I'm also on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Patreon! Any follows help tremendously and I really appreciate it!
