Indie Creator Spotlight
Kristin Mehaffey

I've been meaning to write an Indie creators series of articles that spotlight the many talented creators that are out there making comics against all odds and I feel deserve our attention. A few people have asked me "why would you give another artist a spotlight on your website? They're gonna take your readers!" My short answer is No they won't, my long answer is it ain't about me, it never was about me and it never will be about me; we're all in this together. Hopefully creators see me writing about them and their books and we'll get to know each other, hopefully become friends and hopefully help each other out. There's room for everyone. With that said, let's talk to the mega talented comic book artist and teacher Kristin Mehaffey!

When did you came up with the idea for “Girl of Smoke”?

Noticed that the smoke from cigarettes was like a little ghost. Like it was your soul leaving your body. The rest blossomed from there.

What is the creative team behind your comic?

*waves*

What's the premise behind “Girl of Smoke”?

A girl made a deal with the devil, not for the powers, but because she is ready for her soul to be taken. Ten years later we pick up where she is now.

How many issues do you have planned to produce?

It would probably be best as one whole graphic novel, around 150-200 pages.

Is “Girl of Smoke” going to be a long running series or a mini-series?

Just a self contained story, but lord knows I already am thinking of a sequel it doesn’t need haha.

Why self-publish?

DIY lets you have more control over the story, and then can serve as a portfolio for any more future work.
Picture
How do you separate yourself from the thousands who self publish their books every year?

Been in the culture for a while now, so I feel I have a good grasp on what are tired concepts/tropes and what should feel fresh.

So where can fans read or get their very own copy of “Girl of Smoke”?

It’s still in development but I should be releasing it on the internet by 2020!

What's next for “Girl of Smoke”?

Just making it happen, you know.

Are you working on any other projects at the moment?

I’m the comics teacher at the Muse Writers Center in Norfolk, VA. I teach workshops and classes there. Check out www.The-Muse.org for details! Otherwise I table at events. Find me at Comic Arts Richmond and Richmond Indie Comics Expo in November!

Indie Creator Spotlight
Keith Gleason
I've been meaning to write an Indie creators series of articles that spotlight the many talented creators that are out there making comics against all odds and I feel deserve our attention. A few people have asked me "why would you give another artist a spotlight on your website? They're gonna take your readers!" My short answer: No they won't. My long answer: It ain't about me, it never was about me and it never will be about me; we're all in this together. Hopefully creators see me writing about them and their books and we'll get to know each other, hopefully become friends and hopefully help each other out. There's room for everyone. With that said, I'd like to introduce to you one of the best people you'll ever meet in this industry and life in general, the organizer of Plastic City Comic Con  and the creator of The Mighty Mascots; Mr. Keith Gleason!
Picture
Me- When did you came up with the idea for Mighty Mascots?

Keith Gleason- The idea came to me from a t-shirt that had a group of cereal mascots hanging out together on it. The image struck me as something fun and cool, I didn't immediately think of it being a super hero book; but that's how it ended up. It's a love letter to Saturday Morning Cartoons and super hero team books from the eighties.

What is the creative team behind your comic?

I handle the storyline, script, and lettering of the book. Pencils and Inks are done by the massively talented Ian Waryanto and colors are done by the equally talented Anton Bandi.

I have to say, the book looks beautiful! What's the premise behind Mighty Mascots?

For people not familiar with this series, its about a bunch of cereal mascots who were brought to life by a 3D printing formula and have banded together as a super hero team.

Picture
Ha! Brilliant! How many issues do you have planned to produce?

Right now, I have the next three mini-series mapped out; but this could easily be an ongoing series.

Is Mighty Mascots going to be a long running series or a mini-series?

Right now it is coming out as a series of mini-series.

That's also smart, it's easier for fans to pick up three books and have a full story than picking up one book and not knowing if the story will ever get resolved. No let me ask you this, why self-publish?

The book has been released by Alterna Comics, I had already started self publishing it on my own prior to them picking it up; and would have continued to do that if a publisher hadn't come along. My desire to tell this story would have compelled me to self publish it.
Picture
How do you separate yourself from the thousands who self publish their books every year?

Hmmm... that is a good question, super hero books are a dime a dozen nowadays. I think what I've put together is a fun merging of an over the top Saturday Morning Cartoons concept that is cleverly disguised as a super hero book. The fan feedback has been amazing for it so far!

So where can fans read or get their very own copy of Mighty Mascots?

You can get the first mini-series several ways. First, I would say check your local comic book shop. The first mini-series was available through Diamond Distribution and a bunch of shops ordered it. If you can't find it there it is available through Alterna's website -- https://www.alternacomics.com/ or you can get it directly from my website as well -- RecklessSidekick.com

What's next for Mighty Mascots?

Funny you should ask that, I'll be launching an Indie GoGo in June to help me fund the next three issue mini-series. All three issues are ready to go and I just need some funding to help pay my creative team. We have some exciting exclusives available only on this campaign and we're including a variant cover by the great Chris Giarusso as well!

Mini Marvels Chris Giarusso? Nice!!! Are you working on any other projects at the moment?

I have a couple of other comic book projects dying to get out of my head and onto the comic pages, but right now I'm fully focused on the next Mighty Mascots installment.

I hear ya! Anything else you wanna share with us?

Just wanted to thank anybody and everybody that is willing to pick up an Indie comic book! I truly appreciate it, we could not do this if not for people willing to take a chance on an unknown property and talent.

That's a fact! Well, continued success on all your projects and I'll see you in August at Plastic City Comic Con.

Thanks man!! Really appreciate it!!

Indie Creator Spotlight
Francisco J. Rivera

As you all know I've been shining a spotlight on many indie comic book creators I feel deserve more recognition than they currently get and whose body of work merits our attention. Some of these creators are writers, pencillers and today we're going to get to know a master colorist; one of my best friends, colleague and Truthful Comics brother Francisco J. Rivera!
Picture
TC: When did you discovered comic books? Was it love at first read?

As with anyone who is curious about this wonderful medium one would find magazines and books at local shops like supermarkets and pharmacies. In my early teenage years, Manuel and I discovered that a boutique happened to be selling comics and trading cards. And yes it was love at first sight.

TC: When you first started collecting, which books did you collect?

X-men comics were a big hit in the 90’s so X-men #1 had come out and was really exciting to start with the second series with Chris Claremont and Jim Lee. The industry was expanding quickly, Erik Larsen, Todd McFarlane, Marc Silvestri, Jim Valentino really got my interest. Image comics had released their lineup of series made to appeal to all kinds of comic fans: Youngblood, The Savage Dragon, Spawn, and WildC.A.T.s offered science fiction, fantasy, romance, horror, crime fiction, historical fiction, humor.

TC: Do you consider yourself a comic book reader, collector or both?

I became both since once you’ve dipped your toes you are hooked up to a whole new world of stories, ideas, and art that you never knew existed!

TC: Which is/are your favorite comic book character(s)?

Hands down, my favorite mutant is X-men’s Beast.

How did you get into computer coloring and/or coloring in general?

I had started to develop a passion at a very young age. Growing up as a kid that watched cartoons every chance I had, either with family or friends. I got the idea that someday I could be the one who would be drawing those same cartoons that I was watching. The Sunday comic strip would have been a fair start to spark the interest of any reader. Then as I started reading comic books I was captivated by colors and effects that artists gave characters making them come alive. As other people have tried painting their own drawings with crayons, colored pencils, watercolor, and other media. I got my first computer when I turned 18. It was 1997 Windows XP was a thing. my father just had got me a computer for college. Working around computers one will find that Windows Paint was the most accessible program to start testing your artistic aspirations.

TC: How would you weigh the importance of technical knowledge vs. aesthetic feel and experience for a colorist?

For my part, it requires patience, practice, and some level of artistic skill. Nowadays mostly coloring is done on computers. It is amazing what can be achieved. It is secondary but its as important to pencils and stories.
Picture
TC: Can a colorist have a unique style?

Yes. Although it’s difficult to stand out as today there are so many talented artists in comics. You can be doing your own style can’t help but be influenced by other colorists.

What are your artistic inspirations?

I would say many artists have influenced me but one more than others. Marte Gracia, Carlos Pacheco, Marc Silvestri, Jae Lee, Christian Lichtner, Alex Ross, Mark Texeira, Todd Mcfarlane.

TC: Which comic book colorist(s) do you follow, if any?

Marte Gracia definitely is a master. Yeah!

TC: How and when did you and Manuel A. Carmona decided to work on a project together?

As around the late 90s, Manuel came with the idea of a group of young superpowered kids who were used for their powers to bring good to this world. I wanted to see how that went cause it sounded to me a lot like what I was interested in since reading comics so New Wave was a perfect fit.

TC: What’s your approach when coloring Project: New Wave?

I try to set the colors as cinematography film would. I set the tone and mood.

Describe to the readers your coloring process.

I don’t even actually touch the art physically, but it is all done with a scanned piece of artwork. After the penciler sends scans of the inked comic page. That’s when the magic happens. Layers its the trick. It’s a wonderful thing. Highly recommended its a non-destructive approach in working your pages. Currently, I’m using Krita for colors but I’ve worked on Sai, Corel Photo-Paint (not recommended kids) and like most other colorists Photoshop.

TC: Do you see yourself coloring comic books for a long time?

Well, not really; I plan to travel to the Milky Way's Galactic Center. The center of our galaxy that is located around 26,500 light-years away from Earth. Not enough time. Need to build my spaceship.

When did you get the idea for SOLO?

-The Armageddon theme has intrigued me since I was a child, and I think the idea of this Graphic Novel has been conceived over the years! But just two years ago I was able to organize all the ideas and start the project.

What is the creative team behind your comics?

So far I've been doing everything myself. Script, ink and colors.

What is the premise behind SOLO?

-I love Sci-Fi movies, mostly post apocalyptic theme and always wanted to write comics about it. There are many movies about zombie apocalypse, nuclear wars; but very few about the classic biblical apocalypse. What happened after the great war between heaven and hell? That's what "SOLO" is all about.

How many issues do you plan on producing?

-Well, because I do all the work myself, the production time is quite long and sometimes tiring; but it's worth seeing the project ready after all that work.

Will SOLO be a long series or a miniseries?

-SOLO is a Graphic Novel divided into two chapters only.
Picture
Why self-publish?

-I believe that each passing year the number of online readers is growing. There are a lot of people on the internet looking for new stuff, and this includes comic book lovers! We are in the digital age, after all; but I would love to have my work published in the traditional way. I am open to it, and in fact looking for publishers at the moment.

How do you separate from the thousands who publish your books every year?

-As I said before, I'm also a movie lover. And one thing I miss sometimes, is more cinematic language in comics. With the exception of some masters such as Alan Moore and Garth Ennis, this kind of thing is mostly seen in Japanese manga. And that is exactly what is very present in my comics. Reading SOLO is like watching a NETFLIX series, if you know what I mean.
Picture
So where can fans read or get their own copy of SOLO?

- So far only on my website.

What comes next for SOLO?

-Well, maybe a deluxe edition in bookstores. Maybe a movie! Who knows?

Are you currently working on other projects?

-Yea. A new Graphic novel is already being produced. It's called "Corazon" and it's about a mother who lives in a small Mexican town called Iztapalapa. It's a police tale with a lot of drama and action, some psychological stuff too. I am very excited about this new project.

Anything else you want to share with us?

It is a great pleasure to talk to you all and share a little of my career. Look for www.auroracomicsuniverse.com There you can download both SOLO chapters, enjoy some arts in the gallery and see some teasers of upcoming projects. Check it out!

Indie Creator Spotlight
Troy Dongarra

I've been meaning to write an Indie creators series of articles that spotlight the many talented creators that are out there making comics against all odds and I feel deserve our attention. A few people have asked me "why would you give another artist a spotlight on your website? They're gonna take your readers!" Hopefully creators see me writing about them and their books and we'll get to know each other, hopefully become friends and hopefully help each other out. There's room for everyone. With that said, let's talk to the mega talented Troy Dongarra; creator of the All Ages comicbook Slap Shot!
Picture
When did you came up with the idea for Slap Shot?

I started trying to think up a hero (any hero) after meeting Chris Giarrusso and Brian Smith at a con in 2017. Those guys are so full of enthusiasm for what they do. It was very inspiring. It started out as a total G-Man rip off, then evolved into a "what if Batman was poor and kind of stupid" thing. By January 2019 he had become Slap Shot. Neither like G-Man or Batman.

What is the creative team behind your comic?

I created, wrote and drew it, my daughter Isabella (9 years old) acted as content editor, letting me know what parts were too grown up, and my buddy Jeremy Rodden (www.toonopolis.com) proofread it for me. He's a heck of a talented writer. The temptation to ask him to rewrite it was pretty strong.

What's the premise behind Slap Shot?

Slap Shot is an all ages comic about a human in a world run by monsters (who naturally hates monsters because they eat humans) who decides to become a monster hunter. He ends up getting bit and becomes a monster himself. Of course there's a lesson in there: Slap Shot learns that it's not what you ARE that makes you bad, it's what you DO.

How many issues do you have planned to produce?

At least 2 are planned but I'd like to get a third instalment. He's a hockey themed hero so I think 1 issue per period of his story would be pretty cool. Each will be a stand alone one shot issue.

Is Slap Shot going to be a long running series or a mini-series?

No. Each issue is planned as a stand alone one shot issue. Deja vu.

Why self-publish?

Because it's a hobby and self publishing keeps it fun and simple.
Picture
How do you separate yourself from the thousands who self publish their books every year?

Slap Shot is an all ages book. I think it's also odd enough to get a chuckle out of an older reader. Also, the interior pages are printed in glorious black and white on paper suitable for crayons, markers, and colored pencils. So if you hate it you can always use it as a coloring book.

So where can fans get their very own copy of Slap Shot?

My website www.ToonsByTroy.com and very soon, on Indieplanet.com as both print and digital.

So what’s in store for Slap Shot ?

The working title for the second story is Powers & Puberty if that tells you anything. His voice may crack, he may start to grow wings in places where he didn't have wings before. That kind of thing.

Are you working on any other projects at the moment?

Yes. I'm working on a parody of the Edgar Rice Burroughs' jungle man genre. It's not far enough along to share more but it's also an all ages funny book.

Anything else you wanna share with us?

Sure. If you like what you see or are reading here, hit me up at the website, or @toonsbytroy on facebook and Instagram. I'd love to hear from you. I also do commissions.

With that said, let's talk to the mega talented Kelley Leanne Harris, creator of Those Who Sleep.
Picture
Me- When did you came up with the idea for Those Who Sleep?

Kelley- It started as an attempt at NaNoWriMo back in 2015. I came up with the idea and did the first chapter, 31 pages, over the course of November that year. It was just supposed to be a one shot, but when I was done I was still really into the characters and concept and kept playing with it for the next few years

Me- What is the creative team behind your comic?

Kelley- Just me, I do all of it, which is why the process is so slow haha

Me- What's the premise behind Those Who Sleep ?

Kelley- TWS is a supernatural/horror themed comic about two best friends who get caught up in a whirlwind of secrets and mysteries after they discover a dead body. Willa is an energetic college student and her best friend happens to be an extremely powerful vampire.

Me- How many issues do you have planned to produce?

Kelley- I don't have a set amount right now. I just have the story layed out. I do this in my free time with no intention of it becoming anything full time, so I'm taking the process slowly.

Me- Is Those Who Sleep going to be a long running series or a mini-series?

Kelley- Long running

Me- Why self-publish?

Kelley- Like I said I don't have any intention of this being a job or a way to make money, it's really just for fun. Self publish lets me make a few books here and there to sell at conventions.
Picture
Me- How do you separate yourself from the thousands who self publish their books every year?

Kelley- I honestly don't. I just want to make a story that I love and hope that some people like it too.

Me- Good answer! Where can fans read or get their very own copy of Those Who Sleep?

Kelley- I don't have any plans to do another print run for quite awhile, but you can read it for free on webtoon!

Me- What's next for Those Who Sleep ?

Kelley- We're about to finish chapter two, then we'll be jumping into chapter three that really starts to amp up the horror aspects of the story.

Me- Are you working on any other projects at the moment?

Kelley- Between work, TWS, commissions, and con tables, I'm just trying to make sure I sleep haha.

Me- Anything else you wanna share with us?

Kelley- If you're interested you can read it on webtoon, but I'm also on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Patreon! Any follows help tremendously and I really appreciate it!

Indie Creator Spotlight:
Danny Jimenez

I've been meaning to write an Indie creators series of articles that spotlight the many talented creators that are out there making comics against all odds and I feel deserve our attention. A few people have asked me "why would you give another artist a spotlight on your website? They're gonna take your readers!" Hopefully creators see me writing about them and their books and we'll get to know each other, hopefully become friends and hopefully help each other out. There's room for everyone. With that said, let's talk to the mega talented Danny Jimenez, creator and artist of Gravestone!
Picture
Me- When did you came up with the idea for Gravestone?

Back in 2008 I had been invited to participate in an online free comic book compilation and I had only 4 days to create, write, color and letter a story. Since I didn't want to use the characters I was developing at that moment I created Tom B. Stone (aka GRAVESTONE). The character got a very nice reception. Me and Julian landed 3 seasons of Gravestone online series. I finally pulled of the task thanks to Luis J. Torruellas who colored the pages.

Me- What is the creative team behind your comic?

Right now Gravestone is being published in print. The book is titled GRAVESTONE: DARK ORIGINS. Unlike the web series, this book is done in a different format more like a book with just one illustration per page. Art is done by me while the story is crafted by my business partner and friend Eric Ramos.

Me- What's the premise behind Gravestone?

Dark Origins is a wild ride, theres this super smart and dorky character called the Antiquarian, who owns an antique shop and receives an unexpected visit from an old acquaintance. This visit prompts the discovery of an the entity known as Gravestone. Right now Gravestone is planned as an ongoing series.  We truly believe our product is of great quality and fans reviews support this claim.

Me- How many issues do you have planned to produce?

We are aiming to produce it quarterly.
Picture
Me- Is Gravestone going to be a long running series or a mini-series?

As I said our book is NOT done in comic book format, it's a hybrid between a book and a comic.

Me- Why self-publish?

Team Gravestone decided to self publish because we believe in the medium.

Me- How do you separate yourself from the thousands who self publish their books every year?

This book in particular is very unique, dark and smart. We truly believe our product is of great quality and fans reviews support this claim. I compare it a lot to a tv series which at the end of each chapter leaves you wanting more.

Me- So where can fans read or get their very own copy of Gravestone?

Fans can order copies from our books at our facebook page www.facebook.com/gravestonecomic and inbox us. We ship everywhere!

Me- What's next for Gravestone?

We are gonna keep on pumping out books for everyone to enjoy. And some surprises are on the way... This December will be the launch of our second annual which will be full of unexpected surprises! Make sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram: @gravestonecomic and check our webpage www.gravestonecomic.com

Me- Anything else you wanna share with us?

Yes, being an indie publisher is not easy, its a lot of work and sacrifice but the reward is when you see your work in print; it's just something out of this world. Also? Please check us out we currently have GRAVESTONE: DARK ORIGINS #0, 1, 2 AND 3 plus the first annual. Thanks for the opportunity!!!

Indie Creator Spotlight
Jose Cruz

Picture
When did you came up with the idea for Alpha?

I came with the idea when I was making character designs for a story, written by me within the local artist group known back then as Trinity; later known as Unity Artist Group. The story was based on Unity characters, but from those version's future, one of those stories and one of the characters' designs; Alpha was born. Of course, only based on the story; not copying any of those original characters.

What is the creative team behind your comic?

I am the creator of the vast majority (if not all) the characters in our studio. Likewise, I've been the writer and many times, the artist and colorist as well. Silver Island has at our service great talents, artists and writers from here, from Puerto Rico, the United States, Spain, Arabia, Brazil, Korea, the Philippines, Mexico, Ecuador, Venezuela and many other Countries.

What's the premise behind Alpha?

Alpha is a character that obtains powers from a blue space rock, which is alive (within itself
that is). There is an entity, it fuses with the human host and hence Alpha is born. The story involves fantastic elements, more based on science and aliens but following the genre of superheroes.

Picture
How many issues do you have planned to produce?

So far two Alpha comics have been published, that is,  issues #1,and #2 with #3 in process; apart from that a few art pinup books have been published based on the character with art by different local and foreign artists. A mini series is being produced apart from the regular comic, but it does connect, where it concentrates on the presentation of new Alpha enemies; one in specific. This mini series will have three parts, but there will be more. Moreover from Alpha #4, the regular comic, will fully begin the story of the origin of Alpha and some of these characters and how Alpha gains his powers.

Is Alpha going to be a long running series or a mini-series?

Both, we hope. The regular run was meant to be twelve issues but it will go on, better put, it'll be an ongoing series as long as the readers support it. And as I mentioned, there's a mini series in the works and much more.

Why self-publish?

Indie publishers, as we sometimes names it, on all countries, have
nothing to envy to big publishers like DC, Marvel, etc. There is a lot of talent in independent publications in the world, they also have or have more creative freedom.

How do you separate yourself from the thousands who self publish their books every year?

If you mean local, I try or WE try to give a good product, we do not look for competition, although this however is business and competition is healthy for the business; but at least we (I mean local publishers) respect each other and many times collaborate with each other. We feel if one or one reaches the maximum... we all win!

So where can fans read or get their very own copy of Alpha?

Alpha was taking, like most of our other publications, to comic shops and specialized bookstores and events, but unfortunately due to the current situation, that is canceled but those interested can write to our Facebook page and place orders for our comics at the entire island of Puerto Rico and abroad.

What's next for Alpha?

Good stories as of now, it gets better, introduction of new
characters and inclusion of other Silver Island characters in the Alpha story.

Are you working on any other projects at the moment?

Silver Island related only, for now, apart from Alpha there's a Blindsight #1 comic, based on the origin of this female character named Jenny Alvarez; who is blind from birth and has powers of her own. X-pyre, another of our main characters, will have his second issue; both characters had previous appeareances on the title Paths.

Anything else you wanna share with us?

Just stay tuned to our Silver Island Studio pages on Facebook, Instagram and all of social media,
lots of good things are coming; and thanks for the continued support.

A Comics Creator Collective

There's a myth that talks about every comic book creator cross promoting each others projects and end up living happily ever after. Sounds great... far from the truth. For some reason getting comic book creators to Comment/React/Share other artist's work is like pulling teeth, yet they keep asking themselves "why won't my fanbase grow?"; you'd think the reason is pretty clear but obviously it isn't. Well, here's my idea...

I feel the best way to reach a larger audience would be to attend big comics and sci-fi conventions like NYCC, LA Comic Con or any other one of those mega events. But let's be real, the cost of table, food, hotel and expenses make attending these events damn near impossible for the smaller publishers and especially self publishing creators. But what if...? What if we all found a big convention and one or two creators from a collective of comic book artists and writers took some of their books/prints/merchandise and sold them on the same table and gave back the earnings after the show? You add up the cost of table/hotel, give the money to the two people that are attending the event and it's up to them to push/sell those books, take a % of the earnings for their effort and give each creator back the left over merchandise and earnings.

I think this could be huge for indie creators as a collective since in all sincerity, there's only so many conventions we can attend on our own. If ten comics creators split a $300 Artist's Alley table fee at NYCC under the same banner, it'd be $30/per person instead of $300 and you'd reach the same amount of people; that's more than reasonable I think. I'm going to reach out to a few colleagues in my neck of the woods, I suggest you do the same. We're all in this together and we'll make it together as well.

2020 edit:
I wanted to resurface this review I had done in 2015 of this graphic novel. It's still one of my all time favorite indie stories and if you ever run into it and you enjoy something a little different mixing slice of life, coming of age, and romance, you can give this review a read and check out the book if you have a chance! /end edit

Last year my girlfriend discovered this huge blow-out sale at a Strand Books warehouse. They were moving the warehouse to another location and it was a treasure trove of goodies. Books, dvds, graphic novels, we ended up going twice and we got some great, GREAT, GREAT, well, you get the picture, deals.

On the last day of the sale, I was walking through one aisle, when the spine of this graphic novel caught my attention. The title said "Love Buzz".

Immediately, the Nirvana cover of that song which was published in their first album, Bleach, started playing in my head. I pull it out and saw this nice cover and the inset title saying A True Love Story.

I've always been a sucker for romantic comedies or "chick flicks". My tastes in comics and movies is very varied, and I rarely get to see romantic comedy graphic novels, which kind of shows me how comics, especially indie comics, have evolved since the 90s, where I probably never would've found a book like this.

I flipped through the pages and instantly fell in love with the beautifully expressive art of main artist of the book Michelle Silva. I put it in the basket with the rest of our loot, and ended up reading it during my daily subway commute.

Writer Len N. Wallace put out  a wonderful coming of age story with the on again off again relationship between the two main characters, Norm Raymer and Maggie Gunther. We see them and a cast of friends develop from those high school years all the way into college.

He does a great job as well integrating Norm's aspiration to be a comic book creator, where the art of Dave Tuney gives a fantastic visual and balance to the book in those few pages where Norm "drew" his comics.

As usual, I don't want to go too much into detail about the story, so that way if you decide to pick up the book yourself, you will still be able to enjoy the story spoiler free. All I can say is a quote from the book warning you all that this is not a story of true love, but a true love story.

The creative team obviously put in a lot of effort into this book, which was published in 2009, and I only wish I had known about this one a lot sooner, this one is definitely one of my all time favorite finds, and if you happen to run into this book, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
