Indie Creator Spotlight:
Danny Jimenez

I've been meaning to write an Indie creators series of articles that spotlight the many talented creators that are out there making comics against all odds and I feel deserve our attention. A few people have asked me "why would you give another artist a spotlight on your website? They're gonna take your readers!" My short answer is No they won't, my long answer is it ain't about me, it never was about me and it never will be about me; we're all in this together. Hopefully creators see me writing about them and their books and we'll get to know each other, hopefully become friends and hopefully help each other out. There's room for everyone. With that said, let's talk to the mega talented Danny Jimenez, creator and artist of Gravestone!

Me- When did you came up with the idea for Gravestone?

Back in 2008 I had been invited to participate in an online free comic book compilation and I had only 4 days to create, write, color and letter a story. Since I didn't want to use the characters I was developing at that moment I created Tom B. Stone (aka GRAVESTONE). The character got a very nice reception. Me and Julian landed 3 seasons of Gravestone online series. I finally pulled of the task thanks to Luis J. Torruellas who colored the pages.

Me- What is the creative team behind your comic?

Right now Gravestone is being published in print. The book is titled GRAVESTONE: DARK ORIGINS. Unlike the web series, this book is done in a different format more like a book with just one illustration per page. Art is done by me while the story is crafted by my business partner and friend Eric Ramos.

Me- What's the premise behind Gravestone?

Dark Origins is a wild ride, theres this super smart and dorky character called the Antiquarian, who owns an antique shop and receives an unexpected visit from an old acquaintance. This visit prompts the discovery of an the entity known as Gravestone. Right now Gravestone is planned as an ongoing series.  We truly believe our product is of great quality and fans reviews support this claim.

Me- How many issues do you have planned to produce?

We are aiming to produce it quarterly.

Me- Is Gravestone going to be a long running series or a mini-series?

As I said our book is NOT done in comic book format, it's a hybrid between a book and a comic.

Me- Why self-publish?

Team Gravestone decided to self publish because we believe in the medium.

Me- How do you separate yourself from the thousands who self publish their books every year?

This book in particular is very unique, dark and smart. We truly believe our product is of great quality and fans reviews support this claim. I compare it a lot to a tv series which at the end of each chapter leaves you wanting more.

Me- So where can fans read or get their very own copy of Gravestone?

Fans can order copies from our books at our facebook page www.facebook.com/gravestonecomic and inbox us. We ship everywhere!

Me- What's next for Gravestone?

We are gonna keep on pumping out books for everyone to enjoy. And some surprises are on the way... This December will be the launch of our second annual which will be full of unexpected surprises! Make sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram: @gravestonecomic and check our webpage www.gravestonecomic.com

Me- Anything else you wanna share with us?

Yes, being an indie publisher is not easy, its a lot of work and sacrifice but the reward is when you see your work in print; it's just something out of this world. Also? Please check us out we currently have GRAVESTONE: DARK ORIGINS #0, 1, 2 AND 3 plus the first annual. Thanks for the opportunity!!!
