Good day, everyone! Hope the week has been treating you well on this first full week of 2021. Today, I want to write about a webcomic that was actually starting to gain a lot of steam but that has suffered the most from setbacks: DTF6. Short for Delta Task Force 6, it is described as a sci-fi psychological thriller. Warlord is my love letter to super heroes and inspired by characters like The Ray (1990s version, DC Comics), Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner 1990s version as well) and The Flash (Wally West 1990s version), with some Spider-Man and Robin (Tim Drake) mixed in as well. DTF6, consisting of characters I created WAY before Warlord, is my love letter to team books and anime. As the story and concept progressed, influences for this story has come from Uncanny X-Men (Scott Lobdell and Joe Madureira run), Sovereign Seven (the Chris Claremont comic from DC), G-Force (Battle of the Planets in Japanese), Neon Genesis Evangelion, Argento Soma, and Heroic Age, to name the most influential works. It took years to finally finish chapter 1 two years ago, and again had to go into hiatus after getting ready to continue in 2018. Until this year. My goal fo 2021 with DTF6 is to finally continue this story. I can't wait to revisit this particular world and expand on it. My plan is to release 2 chapters this year, meaning that contrary to Warlord and Clown, it will be updating once a week. That's the only realistic schedule I can have for DTF6 for the time being until I finish other projects, once other projects come to an end, the goal is to eventually update twice, and then 3 times a week as well. This story is nowhere near as long as Warlord, but it definitely has a beginning, middle, and ending all planned out, so I know how this series will end. I also want to do a once a week schedule as a compromise to myself, to be able to update regularly without sacrificing quality too much. This is definitely a comic I'm extremely passionate about and can't wait to share with all of you! Again, thank you all for reading, stay safe and catch you next blog! -Alvaro

Hello again! You may have noticed on Sunday I finally updated the 5th strip of the Truthful Comic Edition of Never Mind. Last year I started uploading a remastered version of the original Never Mind strip from 2007. But, as I was close to being midway through in the summer, the pandemic was at it's peak, the protests heated up for social justice, my day job got crazy busy, so I simply burnt out. So I uploaded a black square for Black Out Day, and have been on hiatus ever since. Until now. In 2021, my plan is to finish up and print this season 1 remaster of Never Mind, also taking the momentum from the end of last year when I was able to print the collection of the original Never Mind. As most of you know, the files and original artwork was destroyed during a storm in Puerto Rico. But last year I happened to find a pdf file with the original strips originally printed for a convention in 2008 and that was uploaded at Amazon. Now available through IndyPlanet, the original strips where adjusted to look better and crisper than the first printed edition, adding a brand new cover and expanded thoughts on each of the 12 strips and a new introduction. To my surprise, it actually has been selling well digitally and along with Warlord, has been inducted in the Puerto Rican in Comics Virtual Exhibit. If you want a physical or digital copy of it, you can check it out here indyplanet.com/never-mind-1 My goals for Never Mind in 2021 is to finish season 1 of the TC Edition in the summer. On top of that, I want to start season 2 in the autumn and have a printed/digital copy available by then of season 1 of the TC Edition. Thank you all for supporting my oldest running webcomic, once the TC Editions catch up to the original strips, brand new material will be made for at least 2 more seasons. Thank you again for reading and supporting my projects through the year, and thank you for supporting Truthful Comics! -Alvaro Here at Truthful Comics we've always tried to make our books as accesible as possible for our fanbase, be it print-on-demand or in digital format. We've tried and tested various apps and websites throughout the years with various levels of success but we never settled, because we never were completely satisfied. It's because of that reason and us doing our homework that we stumbled upon a marketplace with a difference, so today we are pleased to announce that Truthful Comics has joined the indie comics marketplace Comichaus.com! The way Comichaus.com works is simple, you pay a monthly membership (about $4.10/month) and you have access to every one of the thousands of comic books, graphic novels and trade paperbacks in their database; think of Netflix for indie comics! Sounds pretty amazing to be real right? Well, it IS a truly amazing website/app! And I know you're probably thinking there's only going to be very obscure and small indie publishers with no recognizable characters or creators; and you'd be dead wrong!
On Comichaus you'll find amazing comic book characters like Vampirella, Nosferatu, Captain Action, The Green Hornet & Kato, Black Terror, Miss Fury, Pantha, Magnus: Robot Fighter, Flash Gordon, The Spider, Hack/Slash, Army of Darkness, Aliens and Red Sonja just to name a few! How about household name creators? Well, how does Mark Millar, Nancy A. Collins, Amy Chu, Michael Avon Oeming, Jenny Frison, Terry & Rachel Dodson, Alex Ross, J. Scott Campbell and Grant Morrison sound? COMICHAUS IS THE REAL DEAL!!! We're very excited to be a part of the ever growing indie comics database inside the Comicshaus App and we're even more excited to have started this partnership with our comic book series Project: New Wave created by Manuel A. Carmona. More of our titles will soon join the Comichaus family and as we continue putting out more books they'll be added to their database shortly after. We'd like to thank Comichaus for allowing Truthful Comics into their marketplace, for allowing us to reach fans "across the pond" in the UK and for putting together such an amazing resource for indie creators Worldwide. But most of all, we want to thank YOU, the fans; because without you all our hard work would be in vain. Thank you for going along with us on this crazy ride and buckle your seatbelts, things are about to get wilder than ever before! Now go download the Comichaus App, check the 14-day free trial and if you enjoy it, sign up for the monthly membership and support hundreds; if not thousands of indie creators across the World. In this new year make sure to read lots of comic books and graphic novels (especially indie comic books!), stay safe as we're not out of the woods yet and as always... keep it Truthful! Good morning, all! Speaking of Warlord spin-offs, here's one that's been pretty popular, sometimes even rivaling Warlord on views (I'm a guy that appreciates stats, blame on being BIG on sports since forever!). The funny thing, as I mentioned before, Exorcist is a character I created way before Warlord, and I actually made a short comic in a notebook before Warlord, too. He was, is, and always will be my own personal Batman, and yes, I am VERY unapologetic for it! I eventually introduced Exorcist into Warlord in the series I made in notebooks in high school, and then when I really wanted to make a legitimate comic book with Warlord, I had to make Exorcist a part of the cast. Though his identity hasn't been revealed yet in the webcomic, it's obvious that at the very least he is the most mature of the hero cast, and the natural leader. He has deals with both the government AND Cyberverse, which is the special hero ops that works with the permission of the Puerto Rican government to take care of cases of super powered mayhem that normal authorities can't handle. Of course, the mantle of Exorcist is passed down generation to generation. And this current Exorcist has been popular since he first appeared in Warlord chapter 8 & 9. So much that he was the first to have a spin-off story, "The Mysterious Exorcist: Good Night San Juan". The first exorcist one shot was my love letter to the Doug Moench/Kelly Jones Batman run of the mid 90s. It was partly inspired by the story I did on a notebook in high school, and it was all kinds of fun to do. It took a while to finish because of the same reason other projects took a while, health issues, files being destroyed by floods, a big move from Puerto Rico to NYC. I was eventually able to finally finish "Good night, San Juan", and people REALLY liked it, so at least I felt good people liked it despite the lateness of it in being finished. And as I was finishing the one shot, I actually got an idea for another one shot, "Funeral". Again, being my love letter to Batman, "The Mysterious Exorcist: Funeral", is my homage to the early 90s Batman by Alan Grant/Norm Breyfogle, the run I started reading Batman with. So it's no coincidence that for this one shot, another Warlord character that people like, 'Dita Gutierrez, aka The Fabulous Rocker, makes her debut in a story outside of Warlord. She is for the time being Exorcist's protege, being taken under his wings (well, cape). This story, inspired by a museum visit where I saw various masks that were used for different occasions, and also inspired on a spooky tour I was surprised with for my birthday a couple years back, is a one shot that is filled with more action than the previous one shot, and of course, my 2021 goal is to finish this one shot by summer. The plan is to do 4 one shots, so I'd be halfway there when "Funeral" wraps up. After that, I do have plans for a mini series that would be at least 5-6 issues or chapters, but now I'm just getting ahead of myself! Anywho, thank you all SO much for reading these blogs and geeking out with me, it does mean a lot to me. Take care and catch you next time, keep it Truthful, fam! -Alvaro Hello, hello, everyone! Today I wanted to change focus a little bit to perhaps the most acclaimed webcomic I've done aside Warlord: Alfred Gomez' Clown, Rogue Assassin. What's interesting about Clown, is that he was created by my best friend, Alfred Gomez, as well as many side characters in Warlord. He decided to gift me these characters to do what I wanted with them and thought they would definitely compliment the Warlord universe. I can't imagine Warlord without Fatfish, the Bloody Brothers (minus Deathmate, Massacre, and Akuma), nor Clown. When I got Clown, the first thing I thought was he would be an amazing compliment to Funnybone. And one day Alfred and I got together and brainstormed a story with him, Fatfish, and Funnybone to be able to introduce him into the TMW mythos. And thus, "Clown, Rogue Assassin" was born. Whenever Fatfish is around, you know there is going to be a story of betrayal, love lost, revenge, and of course, a lot of action! Clown has some of my favorite action scenes I've done and that I'm about to make. That opening in chapter one was the most action packed opening I've ever had. A shoot out on high speed motorcycles, what else could you ask for? The cast is definitely unique from stuff I usually draw or write, so it's a great challenge for me as a creator. This mini series is almost midway through chapter 2, which is midway through the 4 chapter mini series. My goal is to finish this mini FINALLY by summer time. The script of course was written way before I had started drawing it. It has been thumbnailed all the way through chapter 4. All the character designs have been nailed. It's just a matter of continuing work on it. This is somewhat of a prequel to Warlord, since some characters from the first four chapters make appearances and of course Funnybone is still working for Fatfish, but at the same time you don't need to read Warlord to read Clown. It also sets up events that happened in chapters 3 & 4, and later in chapter 12 of Warlord, as well as lay the groundwork work for "Funnybone: Rage of the Lucky 13", so it is definitey an important part of the TMW universe of characters and stories. I have been having a blast (many times literally on the pages!) with this mini, and I hope you all continue to enjoy it, and if you're new to it, I hope you're entertained by it. Of course, you can read Clown (as well as all other webcomics) right here on Truthful Comics or the mirror site on The Duck Webcomic www.theduckwebcomics.com/Clown/ -Alvaro Another year has come and gone, welcome to 2021! I just wanted to take a moment to go ahead and talk some Warlord, since I really haven't in a while. Just a small blog for my goals for the year with the Warlord webcomic. For the last few years Warlord has updated barely 1 chapter a year due to many outside circumstances and health issues. Especially chapters 20-22, between recovering from a car accident to making a move to NYC, to losing my original files, it has been a tumultuous few years. But I have always made many personal goals with Warlord, and for the last years, I've been losing sight of these goals by just settling to get pages out. And don't get me wrong, chapters 22-26 have been perhaps the best arc of the series, but visually and uploading wise, it could be WAY more consistent. That's where the goals come in. I have laid out the plans for 2021, my goals are to achieve, or at least get as close as possible, to doing 5 chapters with a 6th chapter started by the end of the year. If I'm able to accomplish that, I will have done 3 of my 4 personal milestones I had for this webcomic. The first milestone was reaching chapter 25. It's a comics tradition to celebrate the 25th issue, and 2 years ago I finally was able to crawl into what many consider the best chapter yet in Warlord, it was certainly the most intense so far. My second milestone, which is the first goal I really want to reach, is chapter 29. 29 is the number of issues The Ray had in the 90s. The comic book series from DC Comics that inspired me to make a Warlord comic book series. I want to be able to make it to 29 as a very personal nod to the series that changed my life. When I'm able to make it to that milestone, within this same year, I want to make it to chapter 30 as well as a personal goal. I want to be able to tell myself that despite all the hardships and roadblocks, I made it. And hopefully, you'll be there for that ride as well, and I hope you have as fun fun reading as much as I've had fun creating this. January 4th continues chapter 27 on through February. Of course, there will be special surprises along the way and more announcements, including the Truthful Comics Edition of Warlord. As always, thank you all for reading, happy new year, stay safe! -Alvaro |
